The Nürburgring needs no introduction. Tough, relentless, dangerous are some of the words that come to mind when I think of this track.

In recent years it has become the benchmark whereby most fast cars get measured. Top speed is an indicator, 0-100 times just as important but if you want an indicator of complete performance in all areas you need a fast Nürburgring time.

“Need a fast Nürburgring time…” – OK so no one actually NEEDS a fast Nurburgring time but it does make for some great marketing material.

Which brings me to the Ford Mustang GTD.

Latest in a line of cars that will use a fast Nürburgring time to create desirability and sell more cars is Ford with their Mustang GTD. Ford has made a beautiful little video about their attempt at the ‘Ring but we’ll have to wait until the 10th of December to find out what the time was.

In the video there’s a lot of focus on sub 7 minutes and I’m pretty sure Ford won’t hype up sub 7 minutes only for the car to lap over 7 minutes.

That will put it into some seriously elite territory as you can see in this table (screenshot from https://fastestlaps.com/tracks/nordschleife)

The only question is how far up the list the GTD will go? We’ll find out on the 10th.
